Favourite Music Video

In my media lesson today I presented to the class one of my favourite music videos, "Eminem - When I'm Gone". This video is shown to be a story told by him in a support group, the video displayed a hyprid, with both narrative and performance elements.

This is one of my favourite video's due to the artist, 'Eminem', being my favourite artist. Do is mainly due to the strong narrative that he brings into his music, which strikes me with a sense of empathy. In this particular there are scenes of him entertaining on stage, which is seen as performance.

Lastly, this video conforms to many of the conventions of RnB and Rap, by the components such as the misc-en-scene and narrative. For example the lighting is very low-key, the dress code being quite 'thug like' and the lyrics being quite aggressive and serious.

The screen shot below displays the artist being quite aggressive and troubled, one of the common conventions shown in many music videos of this genre. This is also linked to the lyrics said, as the narrative is usually quite serious, "I turn around, find a gun on the ground, cock it, and put it to my brain", were the words said whilst this image was visible in sync.

The second screen shot below shows artist,  Eminem, in his costume. A baggy jersey, a 'du-rag' and a baseball cap, typical dress code for a RnB/Hip Pop artist, therefore conforming to the conventions. This helps the audience to identify the genre of the music very quickly.

  1. This is a good choice Brandon, but you need to explain why you chose it more detail - give plenty of examples of screenshots to show your points clearly!
